Whirlwind - Xylophone Solo ($11.80)
by Mark Ewell I wrote “Whirlwind” in February of my freshman year of college. It was my first ever Percussion solo piece and my first time writing specifically for percussion. It is meant to be played fast and very loud. Special attention to dynamics should be observed including very extreme loud and very extreme quiet sections. Without careful attention to dynamics and a certain amount of expressiveness, the piece can become repetitive. However, with extreme dynamic contrast and expressive playing, the piece comes to life. I invite you to make the piece your own and take liberty in use of the repeated sections. The name of the piece is symbolic of the way in which it was written. This piece came together in a “Whirlwind” of energy and only took a few days to finalize. *NOTE: You will be taken to my composer profile on the bookpatch.com for orders. End of Twilight - 4 Mallet Marimba Solo ($11.86)
by Mark Ewell I wrote “End of Twilight” throughout my Sophomore year of college. The very title “End of Twilight” implies the end of darkness. This is symbolic of the fear a child has of the dark and night time. The piece begins in a beautiful chorale as a sort of lullaby before bedtime, however, the piece then becomes dark as the night sets in and the piece tells the frightening story throughout the night eventually leading to the end, the end of twilight. *NOTE: You will be taken to my composer profile on the bookpatch.com for orders. |
